The new crochet must-have comes from TikTok

If you’ve been scrolling through TikTok in the past few days, you already know what we’re talking about: the furry trend has taken over the crochet community!

Soft bags, fluffy effects and shiny details have become the must of the season — and of course, we couldn’t resist reinterpreting it with a fully handmade touch.

We decided to turn the trend into a crochet hobo bag, perfect for any time of the day: from sunset aperitifs in the city to a night out with a comfy yet sparkling look.

A simple yet striking project that combines the charm of a furry texture with the practicality of a basic crochet stitch.

Materials

• 1 roll of grey Lycra Light
• 3 skeins of grey Dion Lurex – our furry and shiny touch
• Crochet hook no. 8
• 6 stitch markers
• Yarn needle
• Scissors

Work process.

Bag base

1. Start with the oval base, the most versatile of all: perfect for bags, clutches and totes. For a medium size, chain 19 stitches. Work 1 single crochet in each stitch back along the chain.
2. In the last chain, work 3 single crochets in the same stitch to create the curve. Place 3 markers here: they will be your guide for the increases.
3. Continue along the other side with 1 single crochet in each stitch.
4. In the last stitch, repeat the previous step: 3 single crochets, adding markers here as well.
5. Close the round with 1 slip stitch and chain 1 to give width to the base.

In the following rounds, work:

• 1 single crochet in each stitch,
• and 2 single crochets in the marked stitches (increase).

Repeat for a total of 3 rounds to obtain a stable and well-proportioned base.

Process: from the panel to the furry handles

Once the base is complete, it’s time to shape the bag. From here, the magic begins: the work gains volume and, round after round, your furry hobo bag will start to reveal its fluffy soul.

Main panel

After the third round of the base, stop making the turning chain.

Continue with 1 single crochet in each stitch: the bag will naturally start to rise, forming a soft and rounded shape.

There is no fixed number of rounds:

• Stop earlier if you want a mini aperitif bag.
• Continue in spiral for a roomy and cozy hobo bag.

Handles

Fold the bag in half and match the edges.

Count 12 stitches per side and mark them with stitch markers — these will be your handle start and end points.

1. Insert the hook joining the front and back panels together.
2. Work 12 single crochets for several rounds, until reaching the desired handle length.
3. At mid-height of the handle, make one decrease to slightly taper the grip.
4. Repeat the same process on the other side.

Once finished, leave a bit of yarn and, using the yarn needle, sew the ends to reinforce the structure.

Final touches

It’s runway time!

With a yarn needle and scissors, hide the yarn tails between the stitches for a clean and professional finish.
