Clic Clac Purse Frames for Crochet Bags
Clic clac purse frames — also known as bag frames or kiss lock bag frames — are one of the most popular closures for crochet bags: elegant, practical and available in dozens of sizes and materials. The arch frame opens when you press both sides simultaneously and snaps shut with a characteristic click. You can use them for coin purses, wallets, clutches, tote bags and structured bags: the mechanism is the same, only the size and frame material change.
Tessiland offers the most complete selection of clic clac purse frames for crochet bags, from mini 8.5 cm formats for coin purses up to 26 cm models for structured bags, in metal, wood and bamboo. The colour range — gold, silver and gun metal for metal frames, natural and dyed for wood and bamboo — is coordinated with bag shoulder straps, bag handles and bag bottoms from the same range.
Metal Clic Clac Frames
Metal clic clac frames are the classic choice for elegant bags: available in gold, silver and gun metal, in dozens of decorative shapes — plain, with pearls, with crystals, with geometric patterns. Ideal for evening clutches, jewel-style bags and structured tote bags.
Wood & Bamboo Frames
Wood clic clac frames and bamboo clic clac frames bring a natural, bohemian aesthetic: perfect for bags in jute, cotton and natural yarns. Wood is warm and substantial, bamboo is lightweight and sustainable.

Clic Clac Bag Frame: Which Size to Choose?
The right clic clac frame size depends on your project: a frame that's too small won't hold the weight of a large bag, and one that's too wide looks out of proportion on a coin purse. Here are the three size ranges and their typical uses:
Up to 10 cm — Coin Purse & Wallet
The 8.5 and 9.5 cm sizes are right for coin purses and wallets: the compact format gives enough opening for coins and cards without being bulky. Thai Skinny 2 mm or Thai Slim 3 mm cord is perfect for this size.
12–25 cm — Clutch & Mini Bag
The 12–25 cm range covers evening clutches, mini bags and small handbags: the 18-20 cm size is the most popular for evening bags, the 24-25 cm for everyday mini bags.
Over 25 cm — Structured & Tote Bags
Sizes from 26 cm upward are for structured bags, tote bags and roomy handbags: the wide opening gives easy access to the inside. The 26 cm wood frame is the most popular choice in this range.

BUYING GUIDE: clic clac purse frames for crochet bags
Choosing the right clic clac frame means evaluating size, material, mechanism and compatibility with your bag cord.
1. Size
- Up to 10 cm (8.5–9.5 cm): for coin purses, wallets and very small pouches
- 12–25 cm: for evening clutches, mini bags and small handbags — the most versatile range
- Over 25 cm (26–30 cm): for structured bags, tote bags and roomy handbags
2. Material
- Metal (gold, silver, gun metal): the most versatile — in dozens of finishes and shapes, suits any bag style. Coordinates with bag carabiners and metal handles
- Wood: warm and natural — ideal for summer bags in jute, raw cotton and natural fibres
- Bamboo: lightweight and sustainable — perfect for a boho natural look, raw or dyed
3. Mechanism
- Classic clic clac: opens by pressing both sides of the frame at the same time — intuitive and secure, the most common choice for crochet bags
- Spring clasp: opens by pushing the arch downward with one finger — faster and more convenient for everyday use
- Snap closure: click-lock security mechanism — for roomy bags where the contents need to stay protected
4. Cord Compatibility
- A clic clac frame needs a cord with enough body to hold the bag's structure — Tessiland Thai cords (Skinny 2 mm, Slim 3 mm, Sublime 4 mm) are designed for exactly this
- For wood and bamboo frames, Tessiland Jute cord is the natural choice that matches the frame's aesthetic
- Rowen 3.5 mm cord is excellent for evening clutches: structured enough to hold the shape, supple enough to sew neatly around the frame

What size clic clac frame should I choose for my bag?
Size depends on the project: for coin purses and wallets the right size is 8.5–9.5 cm; for clutches and mini bags anywhere from 12 to 25 cm (18-20 cm is the most popular); for structured bags and tote bags choose 26 cm or more. A useful rule: the frame width should be equal to or slightly less than the finished width of your bag, to distribute tension evenly along the sewn edge.
How does a clic clac bag frame work?
A clic clac frame is an arch-shaped frame made of two arms connected by a side pivot. When you press both sides of the arch, the arms open and release the bag opening; when you let go, the internal spring snaps the arms shut with the characteristic click. The top edge of your bag is sewn or glued inside the frame to create the structured shape. The mechanism works the same way in metal, wood and bamboo — only the frame material changes.
What is the difference between a spring clasp and a classic clic clac frame?
A classic clic clac frame opens by pressing both sides simultaneously — requiring two fingers. A spring clasp frame opens by pushing the arch downward with a single finger: faster and more convenient for bags you open frequently. A snap closure adds a security lock to prevent accidental openings. In terms of assembly, all three work the same way: the cord is sewn or glued inside the frame channel.
Which cord should I use with a clic clac bag frame?
Tessiland Thai cords are the most used: Thai Skinny 2 mm for frames up to 10 cm, Thai Slim 3 mm and Thai Sublime 4 mm for clutches and mini bags, Thai Sublime for large frames. For wood and bamboo frames, Jute cord is the natural choice. Rowen 3.5 mm works beautifully for evening clutches. For step-by-step tutorials, visit the Tessiland Studio.
How do I coordinate the clic clac frame with the rest of my bag hardware?
The basic rule is to match the metal finish across all hardware: if the frame is gold, choose carabiners and handle rings in gold too. The Tessiland seasonal palette is designed to coordinate: you'll find gold, silver and gun metal across the shoulder straps, handles, bag bottoms and carabiners sections. For wood or bamboo frames, pair with antique gold or bronze metal accessories for a harmonious natural look.
