- Reduced price
Quick overview: At Tessiland you'll find bag carabiners and hooks in gold, silver and gunmetal: open-ring carabiners for shoulder straps, classic drop-shaped carabiners for chains and keyrings, and special decorative carabiners in jewellery shapes. Coordinated with shoulder straps, handles and bag bottoms in the same seasonal colour palette.
Bag Carabiners and Hooks
Bag carabiners — together with bag hooks — are the metal components that transform a crochet bag into a professional accessory: they let you attach removable shoulder straps, connect chains, fix handles with screws and make every component interchangeable without dismantling the bag. Tessiland offers the most complete selection in Italy, with dozens of shapes, sizes and metal finishes for every use.
The colour range — gold, silver and gunmetal — is coordinated with bag shoulder straps, bag handles and bag bottoms from the same range. Choose the same finish across all sections for a fully coordinated bag.
Carabiners for Shoulder Straps and Chains
Open-ring carabiners clip onto the side rings of the bag and make the shoulder strap or chain removable in seconds — ideal for multi-use bags where you want to swap the accessory depending on the occasion.
Hooks for Handles and Structure
Bag hooks with screw or fixed-ring closure connect handles to cord terminals, finish off cord ends and link structural components. The screw closure provides a stable and secure grip even for heavy bags.

Carabiners or Bag Hooks: Which Do You Need?
The terms bag carabiners and bag hooks are often used interchangeably, but in practice they have different uses worth knowing before you buy:
- Carabiners → mainly used for bag shoulder straps, chains, keyrings and removable accessories. The spring mechanism lets you clip and unclip quickly, making the shoulder strap interchangeable without any tools.
- Bag hooks → used to connect bag handles to cord terminals, secure structural components or join cord ends. Screw hooks provide a solid, permanent grip — ideal for bags carrying heavier loads.
- Bell carabiners → a halfway option: a fixed body that screws onto the handle or cord, plus a spring-loaded ring — perfect for interchangeable shoulder straps combined with fixed handles.
The practical rule: if you need the shoulder strap or chain to come off easily → choose an open-ring carabiner. If you need to join two components permanently and securely → choose a bag hook with screw or fixed ring.
BUYING GUIDE: bag carabiners and hooks
Choosing the right carabiner means evaluating the clip type, size, metal finish and compatibility with your shoulder straps and handles.
1. Clip Type
- Spring-loaded open ring: the most versatile — for removable shoulder straps, chains and keyrings. Opens and closes in one second, no tools needed
- Classic drop or oval: same function, more elegant shape — ideal for evening bags and clutches
- Jewellery shape (heart, star, triangle...): decorative and functional — the carabiner becomes part of the bag's design
- Screw hook: for a permanent fix of handles and structural cords — maximum holding strength
2. Size
- Mini (20×25 mm): for clutches, keyrings and lightweight accessories
- Medium (30×45 mm): the most common for bag shoulder straps — the standard size for most projects
- Large (40×60 mm and above): for roomy bags with a wide strap or heavy handles
3. Metal Finish
- Gold: warm and bright — perfect for boho, vintage and evening bags
- Silver: neutral and modern — suits any style
- Gunmetal: dark and contemporary — great for industrial, denim and Scandi-style bags
- The Tessiland palette is coordinated: use the same finish across shoulder straps, handles and bag bottoms
4. Compatibility with Shoulder Straps and Handles
- Open-ring carabiners clip onto the side rings found on almost all Tessiland shoulder straps and bag bottoms — no adapter needed
- For cord handles with a sewn terminal, use a bell carabiner: thread the cord through the opening and tighten the screw
- For rigid handles: check that they have the rings designed for a carabiner (useful opening 25-30 mm)

✨ Tessiland Studio — Bag TutorialsFrequently asked questions
What is the difference between bag carabiners and bag hooks?
Bag carabiners have a spring mechanism that lets you open and close the clip quickly — ideal for shoulder straps, chains and removable accessories. Bag hooks (screw or fixed) provide a stable, permanent connection: they fix handles to cords or link structural components. In short: carabiner = removable and quick, hook = stable and permanent.
What carabiner size should I choose for bag shoulder straps and handles?
The standard size for most bag shoulder straps is a 30×45 mm or 40×60 mm carabiner — compatible with all Tessiland shoulder strap rings. For clutches and mini bags, use the mini format (20-25 mm). For large bags with wide straps or heavy loads, choose 40×60 mm or above.
How do I use an open-ring carabiner on a crochet bag?
Press the spring clip downward to open the ring, insert the side ring of the bag (or shoulder strap) into the opening and release — the spring closes the clip automatically. For cord handles with a sewn terminal, use a bell carabiner: thread the cord through the bell opening and tighten the screw. For step-by-step tutorials, visit Tessiland Studio.
Are Tessiland carabiners compatible with all shoulder straps and handles?
Tessiland open-ring carabiners are compatible with all rings on bag shoulder straps from the same range — just choose the right size. For bag handles, check that they have the built-in rings: almost all Tessiland handles in wood, bamboo, resin and fabric already include them.
How do I coordinate carabiners, bag bottoms and accessories in the same colour?
The Tessiland palette is coordinated each season: choose the same metal finish (gold, silver or gunmetal) across all sections — shoulder straps, handles and bag bottoms. The result is a fully coordinated bag where every metal detail speaks the same stylistic language.
