How to Choose the Right Embroidery Thread

Mouliné for cross stitch and shaded embroidery

DMC Mouliné Special is divisible: from 6 strands you can separate 1, 2 or 3 depending on the fineness of the fabric and the count of the canvas (aida). On aida 14, 2 strands are typically used; on aida 18, just 1 is enough. For hand embroidery, 3–4 strands give full coverage on the fabric.

Pearl Cotton for raised embroidery

Pearl Cotton is a non-divisible embroidery cotton: it's used as a single thread and gives a lustrous, slightly raised effect on the surface. It's the right choice for French knots, satin stitch and stem stitch — where thread weight matters more than blending. DMC No.8 is the most versatile size for embroidery on garments and textile accessories.

Diamant Thread for brilliant metallic details
