Wooden Bag Bases for Crochet Bags and Baskets
Quick overview: Tessiland's wooden bag bases are laser-cut bases with perimeter holes for crochet: circle, heart, hexagon, square and decorated shapes. Compatible with crochet bags and baskets — pick a shape and start working.
A wooden bag base solves the structure problem: the bag starts from a rigid base, already perforated, on which you can work in single crochet or any short stitch. Laser cutting ensures precise holes, smooth edges and a uniform finish that makes the work straightforward even for beginners. At Tessiland you'll find circular, hexagonal, heart-shaped, square and decoratively engraved bases — all in natural wood, all with regular holes.

FAQs about wooden bag bases
What is the difference between a wooden base and a plastic base?
A laser-cut wooden base is stiffer and has a natural look — the wood stays visible on the bottom of the finished bag. A plastic base is more flexible and lighter, with a wider colour range. Wood is preferable for structured bags and quality handcrafted work; plastic is more practical for bags that need to resist moisture.
What yarn do you use on a wooden base?
You work directly into the perimeter holes with any bag yarn: macramé cord, lycra ribbon, natural or synthetic raffia, waxed cotton. Hole size (⌀ 4 or 7 mm depending on the model) determines compatible yarn — 7 mm holes also accept thicker cords of 4-5 mm.
Are wooden bases only for bags?
No — laser-cut wooden bases are also used for crochet baskets, napkin rings, decorative containers and home décor items. The technique is identical: start from the base and work upward. Circular shapes are most used for baskets; geometric shapes (hexagon, square) for home décor objects.
How do you choose the right base size?
The base diameter equals the width of the finished bag's bottom. A 22 cm base produces a bag with an approximately 22 cm base — the body then builds up in height. For shoulder bags the most common size is 18-22 cm; for clutches or small bags use 12-15 cm bases.
