Bag Chains for Crochet and DIY Bags
Quick overview: Metal bag chains for crochet and DIY bags: chains by the metre in aluminium (from 1 to 5 m), clutch chains with lobster clasps ready to use, chain straps. Finishes in gold, silver, bronze, gunmetal and matte black, coordinated with straps, handles, carabiners and bag bottoms from Tessiland.
Bag chains are the accessory that turns a crochet bag into a boutique piece: they add structure to the strap, weight and movement, and define the style — from minimal chic to vintage. Tessiland offers metal bag chains in high-quality aluminium, sold by the metre (free cut, ideal for batch creators) or ready-made with bag carabiners already attached.
The colour range — gold, silver and gunmetal — is coordinated with bag straps, bag handles and bag bottoms from the same range.
Chains by the Metre and in Rolls
Aluminium chains sold by the metre (1 m) or in 5 m rolls at a great price: cut to the length you need, no constraints. Classic, hammered, diamond-cut and flat rhombus links — the foundation for creating custom straps, handles and decorations.
Ready-Made Chains with Clasps
Chain straps for bags and clutches, complete with lobster clasps: 110 cm long, ready to clip onto the bag with no cutting or tools required. Perfect for anyone wanting an elegant chain strap in seconds.

Chains by the Metre or with Clasps: Which Format to Choose?
The choice between bag chains by the metre and ready-made chains with clasps depends on your project and how much customisation you want:
- Chains by the metre (1 m) → for a precise length on a single project. Cut, attach the bag carabiners you prefer, and you have a fully custom strap.
- Chains in rolls (5 m) → for batch creators or stocking up: lower price per metre, maximum cutting flexibility. The roll format is the most popular for commissions and craft fairs.
- Ready-made chains with clasps → for a clutch chain strap ready in seconds: 110 cm, clasps already attached, just clip onto the bag's side rings.
In all cases, the same colour range (gold, silver, gunmetal) is coordinated with straps, handles and bag bottoms.
CHOOSING GUIDE: bag chains
Choosing the right chain for your bag means considering the link style, format, finish and compatibility with other accessories.
1. Link Style
- Classic: simple oval links (25×15 mm, 27×20 mm) — elegant and versatile, suits any bag style
- Hammered: links with a beaten finish (18×13 mm) — artisan look with character
- Diamond-cut: faceted links that catch the light (10×7 mm, 12×9 mm, 16×10 mm) — perfect for evening clutches
- Flat rhombus: flat diamond-shaped links (18×12 mm) — contemporary look, light and understated
- Double: interlocked double links (20×15 mm, 12×7 mm) — sturdier, luxury chain effect
2. Length and Format
- 1 metre: the standard length for a single strap — cut to your final length and attach the clasps
- 5 m roll: the most cost-effective format — up to 40% less per metre, for batch production
- 110 cm with clasps: ready to use for clutches — no cutting, no tools
3. Metal Finish
- Gold: warm and luminous — for boho, vintage and occasion bags
- Silver: neutral and modern — suits any style
- Gunmetal: dark and contemporary — for denim bags and Nordic style
- Bronze: warm tone with vintage patina
- Matte black: bold and edgy — for rock and street style bags
- Match the finish with carabiners, straps and handles from the same range

Where to buy chains for crochet bags?
On Tessiland you'll find the most complete selection of bag chains: aluminium metal chains sold by the metre or in 5 m rolls, clutch chains with clasps already fitted, and ready-made chain straps. All available in gold, silver, gunmetal, bronze and matte black. Fast shipping across Europe and the UK.
What's the difference between bag chains and clutch chains?
Bag chains have larger links (18-27 mm) and are sold by the metre or in 5 m rolls, to cut and assemble with carabiners. Clutch chains have finer links (10-12 mm), are lighter and often come with clasps already fitted — ready to use.
How do you attach a chain to a crochet bag?
If using a chain by the metre: cut to the desired length with pliers, open the last link with flat-nose pliers, thread a carabiner onto each end and close the link. If using a ready-made chain with clasps: simply clip the clasps onto the bag's side rings — no tools required.
How long should a chain strap be for a bag?
For a shoulder strap the standard is 100-120 cm. For a cross-body strap you'll need 120-140 cm. For a wrist clutch or evening bag 30-50 cm is enough. Chains by the metre and in rolls let you cut the exact length: measure the attachment point and add 10 cm for the closures.
Are Tessiland bag chains made of aluminium or another metal?
Tessiland chains are made of plated aluminium: lightweight (the bag stays light), hard-wearing and hypoallergenic. The plating in gold, silver, gunmetal, bronze or matte black is applied with a galvanic treatment that ensures long-lasting durability. They won't rust or stain your yarn.
