Decorative Brooches & Safety Pins for Crafting
Quick overview: Tessiland's pins and brooches section brings together decorative metal brooches (circle, star, heart, flower, owl, oval, triangle — pearl line), steel safety pins for sewing and knitting, baby safety pins with covered tips, DIY brooch bases (round and rectangular), stainless steel holding pins and hair clips. To decorate crochet bags, shawls, hats and knitted items — and to pin, hold and assemble.
Pins and brooches are the most versatile accessory in creative sewing: for decorating (a pearl brooch on a crochet bag), for holding (a safety pin keeping panels together during assembly) and for creating (a brooch base to build a personalised decoration on). Tessiland offers pins for all three uses — decorative, functional and DIY bases.
The selection includes the pearl line of decorative metal brooches (circle, star, heart, flower, owl, oval, triangle — perfect as visible closures for shawls, ponchos and bags), safety pins in steel in various sizes (for sewing, knitting and creative projects), baby safety pins with covered tips and brooch bases round and rectangular for gluing or sewing your own decorations.

BUYING GUIDE: brooches and pins
Three questions to choose the right brooch or pin.
1. Decorative or functional?
- Decorative (pearl line): for closing shawls, ponchos and bags with a visual element. Slide between stitches without damage
- Functional (safety pins, holding pins): for pinning, marking, holding. Strong steel, secure closure
- DIY (brooch bases): for creating personalised brooches by gluing or sewing decorations. Nickel-free metal
2. Which size?
- Pearl brooches: one size per shape — medium (3-5 cm), proportioned for shawls and bags
- Safety pins: sets with assorted sizes — small for fine work, large for heavy fabrics
- Holding pins: 135 mm — the large size for blankets, quilts and bulky projects
Frequently asked questions
Do pearl brooches damage knitted or crocheted fabric?
No, pearl line brooches are designed to slide between stitches without piercing or damaging them. The pin is smooth and rounded, it slips into the gap between stitches and locks with the closure. They work perfectly on knitted and crocheted items — shawls, ponchos, bags and hats.
What are safety pins used for in sewing?
Safety pins have dozens of uses in sewing: pinning two fabrics before stitching, marking reference points in knitting (stitch markers), holding jumper panels during assembly, threading elastic through a channel (attach the safety pin to the elastic and guide it through), temporarily fixing a lining. They're the Swiss-army-knife tool of the sewing kit.
How do you make a personalised brooch with the bases?
Take a brooch base (round or rectangular), choose your decoration (a craft felt flower, a crochet element, a bead composition) and hot-glue it to the flat side of the base. The back already has the pin mechanism with safety catch — the brooch is ready to wear or give as a gift.
Are baby safety pins safe for children?
Yes, baby safety pins with covered tips have a cap that covers the pin point even when the safety pin is open — the point is never exposed. They're the standard for reusable cloth nappies and for pinning bibs and blankets without pricking risk. Stainless steel, reinforced closure that won't open accidentally.
