I was born into a creative family, and I've always been passionate about stationery, writing, reading, and anything that lets your hands and mind wander a bit.

What are cozy hobbies?

Cozy hobbies are simple, often manual or creative activities that transform your free time into a sort of personal little haven.

Why is everyone suddenly craving a slow hobby?

Because we are overwhelmed—flooded with information, notifications, videos to watch, messages to answer, things to remember, and screens constantly in front of our eyes. We spend hours switching between smartphones and computers, and then, when we finally get some free time, we often end up picking up... our smartphones again. The result? Even our rest risks becoming noisy.

That is why manual crafts are reclaiming their space. Not because they are anything new—our grandmothers would probably smile at the expression cozy hobby—but because today we have rediscovered how precious it is to do something that simply requires hands, focus, and time. We don't have to produce, we don't have to post, we don't have to be reachable; we can simply create.

Confession: I'm not exactly a pro with a needle and thread yet, and that's precisely why I want to give it a try. I have a small project in mind: customizing simple T-shirts with some embroidered details. I love the idea of starting with something basic and making it unique with just a few stitches—maybe imperfect, but mine. After all, the beauty of cozy hobbies is also giving yourself the luxury of being a beginner. Without having to prove anything to anyone.

3. Amigurumi: Tiny, Adorable, and Irresistible

If you hang out on Instagram, TikTok, or Pinterest, you already know what I'm talking about. Amigurumi have created a universe of their own: little animals, characters, fruits, kawaii objects, and tiny creatures that, once finished, almost always have one problem. They are just too cute to give away! And here, I'm not necessarily talking about the classic crocheted bag. Imagine a pack of Chubby, a few simple moves, and a soft, voluminous, and definitely show-stopping maxi bag. Once you understand how to set up the base, you just keep going until you reach your desired size. In the end, I believe that true contemporary luxury is exactly this: managing to carve out a moment where we don't have to be productive, fast, reachable, or with our minds already racing toward the next thing. A moment where it's simply us, our hands, and something slowly taking shape. Whether it's crochet, a handful of beads, an embroidery project started without really knowing how it will turn out, or a giant bag built stitch by stitch, it doesn't matter. The perfect cozy hobby is the one capable, even if only for a few hours, of turning down the volume of everything else. And maybe that's what I love most about creativity: we think we are creating an object, but in reality, in the meantime, we are also creating a space for ourselves.
