Emily in Paris: the chicest Netflix series is back (and we’re dedicating a granny sweater to it!)
Some wait for Christmas, some for fashion collections, and some — we admit it without shame — for the return of Emily in Paris on Netflix. The series that turned the wardrobe of the most talked-about young American in Paris into a global pop phenomenon is about to gift us a new season. And we, between a ball of yarn and a crochet hook, couldn’t stay indifferent.
Emily in Paris and the style that inspires handmade
For those who haven’t yet given in to binge-watching: Emily is a twenty-something from Chicago catapulted to Paris for work. Digital strategist, colorful outfits, perfect selfies, and an American accent that sparks smiles (and a few eye rolls) among the French.
Her life is split between advertising campaigns, complicated loves, and an unbelievable number of outfits that seem to come straight out of a dream. And from this Parisian handmade look comes the idea of dedicating a special project to Emily: a granny crochet sweater.

Handmade chic: my “Emily Sweater” granny style
And here’s the fun part. To celebrate the return of Netflix’s most stylish series, I came up with a special project: a granny sweater dedicated to Emily. Because the granny square, with its bright colors and retro allure, is a bit like the protagonist herself: ironic, bold, and unafraid to dare.
With just a few skeins, a crochet hook, and a touch of imagination, we can transform the French charm of the series into a unique handmade piece. A creative way to bring a little of Emily’s spirit into our everyday outfits, but with the authentic warmth of handmade.
My Emily Sweater: granny, yarns, and a Parisian touch

For this crochet adventure I chose the yarn Celine in the three most iconic colors, perfectly in Emily’s mood: white, black, and red. A simple yet striking palette, able to tell in a single glance the Parisian style, contrast, and boldness of our heroine.
SUPPLIES:
- 6 skeins of celine white (you’ll have leftovers)
- 6 skeins of celine black (you’ll have leftovers)
- 2 skeins of celine red (you’ll have leftovers)
- Crochet hook size 5
- Yarn needle
- Scissors
The granny panel: the base of the project
We start, as always, with a magic ring:
- 3 chains, 2 double crochets.
- 2 separating chains.
- 3 double crochets.
- Repeat 2 separating chains and 3 double crochets two more times, forming the four sides of the square.
- Yarn over, insert into the third starting chain, and close.
From here, full steam ahead: 21 rounds in total, always with the base pattern (3 starting chains + 2 double crochets), and at the corners we work the classic “3 double crochets – 2 chains – 3 double crochets”. The result? A rich, colorful granny panel.
Neckline and seams: when the panels meet.
- Once the two panels are made, take the red to give character to the project: work a row of single crochet on just one side — this will be the neckline.
- Then place the two panels right sides together and start sewing:
- From the bottom up, I sewed 10 groups of 3 double crochets, leaving the rest open for the sleeves.
- At the neckline side, I joined 5 groups per side to create the shoulders.
The sleeves: a work of patience
This takes a bit of perseverance, but the result is wow:
- Attach the red yarn, 3 chains for height, and continue with double crochet in every stitch below.
- Close with a slip stitch, start again with 3 chains, and work 1 double crochet + one decrease around.
- On the next round invert: 1 decrease + 1 double crochet.
- Finish the sleeves with one round of front post double crochet and one of back post double crochet, alternating.
And naturally, the same process applies to the other sleeve.

The bottom border: the detail that makes the difference
To finish the sweater I worked:
- 2 rounds of double crochet,
- 1 round of post double crochet (alternating front and back).
A final touch with needle and scissors and here’s my Emily Sweater ready to stroll under the Eiffel Tower… or, more realistically, into the wardrobe of all of us who want a chic handmade touch.
Kiss Clutch: the crochet bag that smells of Parisian love

An all-red accessory couldn’t be missing: the Kiss Clutch, a crochet clutch bag made with Pappardella tape and finished with a 24x9 Wave Spring Closure.
Compact, chic, and absolutely handmade, this clutch is the burst of love that recalls Paris in every detail.

The Parisian combo: Emily Sweater, Kiss Clutch, and… a beret
I couldn’t stop at just two pieces. To pay full homage to the French style, I wanted to add a third essential element to this combo: the BERET. Picture the scene: a girl walking along Rue Saint-Honoré, wearing her Emily granny sweater in the colors of the heart, the all-red Kiss Clutch clutched in her hands, and a beret playing with the Parisian wind. Around her, the buttery scent of freshly baked pain au chocolat, the freshness of lavender bouquets, and a trail of roasted coffee drifting out of crowded bistros. The music of a street accordionist blends with the international chatter of the terraces, while the sparkling shop windows of boutiques set the frame. This is the most iconic Paris, where fashion, creativity, and craftsmanship intertwine in a postcard-perfect stroll.
And so yes: my Parisian capsule “Emily in Paris edition” is complete — granny sweater, red clutch, and beret. Three handmade pieces that tell a story: a little trip to Paris, without the need for a plane, but with the fragrance of yarn accompanying us.
Emily in Paris is not just a TV series: it’s an invitation to play with fashion, to dare with colors, and to live everyday life with a touch of irony and charm. And we creatives know it well: with a crochet hook in hand we can turn that Parisian inspiration into something unique, made with heart.
Now it’s your turn: choose your favorite yarns, unleash your imagination, and get ready to live your own Emily in Paris… crochet edition.
