Why does everyone love raffia bags?

It seems raffia mania has officially taken over! More than ever in 2026, crochet trends show no sign of slowing down for search terms like RAFFIA BAG, SUMMER BAG, RAFFIA MESH BEACH BAG. And who are we not to dive headfirst into this trend and create our own version? For Summer 2026, raffia bags are back in the spotlight, with one very simple rule: whether they are mini or maxi, shoulder bags or handbags, slouchy or structured, it doesn't matter. The trend dictates that you must have at least one in your wardrobe.
And that's how the Hoplà Bag was born—a quick and easy bag pattern that is an absolute must-have among your raffia creations.
Why do they always work? Because they go with everything. With a daytime look, they add a fresh, effortless touch. With an aperitif outfit, they instantly look chicer. With an evening dress, they soften the look, making it less formal, more personal, and giving off those ultimate true summer vibes. In short, when you're standing in front of the mirror asking yourself: “Which bag should I wear?”, the smartest answer is right there: a raffia bag.
Eco Vita Raffia: the natural yarn chosen for the Hoplà Bag

To make our Hoplà Bag, we used DMC Eco Vita Raffia, a 100% wood fiber yarn that combines sustainability, creativity, and aesthetic appeal in a single skein.
Each skein weighs 50 grams for 100 meters and is easily worked with a 3.5-4.5 crochet hook. The result is lightweight, durable, and naturally elegant: perfect for anyone looking to create summer accessories with a polished finish.
Eco Vita Raffia is also an exciting choice for those seeking more conscious materials. Its natural composition makes it biodegradable, recyclable, and breathable. Plus, compared to stiffer and noisier commercial raffia, this raffia stands out for being softer, more pleasant, and quieter to work with.
It is ideal for crochet bags, summer hats, storage baskets, and textile jewelry. It holds its shape beautifully without weighing down your project, and its matte finish enhances stitches, decorative details, and fashion accessories.
On Tessiland, it is available with the specific dye lot indicated: a valuable detail for shopping more consciously and without surprises.
The Hoplà Bag Tutorial: A Simple, Summer-Ready, and Super Versatile Raffia Bag

Following the success of our YouTube video tutorial, which has surpassed 25,000 views, the Hoplà Bag officially deserves a spot on our blog too.
This is a medium-sized crochet raffia bag, perfect for everyday summer wear. The final measurements are approximately 36 cm wide by 30 cm high: spacious enough for your essentials, without being bulky.
To make it, we used 2 skeins of raffia: one for the first panel and one for the second panel. To complete the project, I added a pair of Simples handles and a faux leather drawstring bag insert, both in the color cream, to achieve a bright, clean, and easy-to-match look.
The best part about this tutorial is that you don't need to be an expert. The Hoplà Bag is perfect for those who already have a little crochet experience, but also for beginners looking for a simple and rewarding project. You only need to know three basic stitches: chain, double crochet, and single crochet.
The result is a practical and stunning handmade summer bag, easy to customize in your favorite colors and perfect to style with linen dresses, light-wash jeans, crochet sets, caftans, white tops, and flat sandals.
