How to make 3 crochet leaf patterns for Autumn 2025.
Handmade decorations for garlands, blankets and cozy details
There is something magical about autumn leaves: warm colors, sinuous shapes and that atmosphere that turns every corner into a cozy refuge. And what if I told you that you could bring this beauty directly into your home, with needle and crochet?
Crochet leaves are the perfect project for those who love quick little creations with a big impact: they can be made in just a few minutes, lend themselves to countless uses and allow you to play with the autumn yarns we love so much. Just imagine them as garlands to hang on the fireplace, appliqués on a granny cardigan, details for a blanket, centerpieces or place cards.
Ready to gather your little handmade forest? Here are three patterns I’ve selected for you: simple, versatile and beautiful.
Crochet Oak Leaf
A simple, quick project, perfect for autumn decorations.
This leaf can be used as an appliqué on bags, blankets, hats, garlands, or as a single element for place cards and seasonal decorations.
Materials needed:
Stitches used:
Chain stitch (ch)
Single crochet (sc)
Half double crochet (hdc)
Double crochet (dc)
Slip stitch (sl st)
Instructions:
Start
Chain 12.
Row 1 – The central spine. Skip the first ch from the hook.
In the next 4 sts: 1 sc in each (4 sc total).
In the next 4 sts: 1 hdc in each (4 hdc total).
In the next 2 sts: 1 dc in each (2 dc total).
In the last ch: 6 dc in the same st (this will turn the work).
Continue on the opposite side of the chain:
In the next 2 sts: 1 dc in each.
In the next 4 sts: 1 hdc in each.
In the last 4 sts: 1 sc in each.
At the end you should have 26 sts total.
Stem: Chain 6. Work 5 sl st back (skipping the first ch).
Row 2 – Shaping the leaf lobes. Work around the edge of the leaf to create the characteristic oak lobes.
In the first st: 1 sc.
In the next st: 2 dc in the same st, then 2 ch + 1 sl st in the same st → first lobe.
In the next st: 1 sl st.
Then: 1 sc, 1 hdc, and in the next st 3 dc in the same st, then 3 ch + 1 sl st in the same st → second lobe.
Continue alternating sc, hdc, dc and groups of dc with chains until the tip of the leaf.
Work symmetrically on the other side, repeating the same pattern in reverse order. Finish with 1 sc in the last st.
Close with 1 sl st near the starting point (at the base of the stem).
Cut the yarn and weave in the ends with the tapestry needle.
Assembly and use: You can leave the leaf single or make several to join together.
If you want to apply it to other projects (bags, sweaters, blankets), you can leave the yarn attached and sew it directly.
By making leaves in different shades of green, brown, yellow and orange you’ll get a realistic autumn effect. Changing the yarn and hook size will give you larger or smaller leaves. For a stiffer effect (e.g. for garlands or place cards), you can stiffen the leaves with diluted white glue or starch spray. They are also great as appliqués for clothes, hats, scarves or as an autumn centerpiece.

Cut the yarn, pull through the loop and weave in the ends with the tapestry needle.
Variable sizes: use a larger hook for bigger leaves or a smaller one for tiny leaves.
Decorations: join several leaves into a garland, apply them on a bag, on a hat, or place them in a bowl with LED lights for a magical autumn effect.

Final tips
Make several leaves in different colors (red, yellow, orange, brown) and use them for garlands, centerpieces or appliqués on blankets and scarves.
You can stiffen them with diluted white glue or starch spray if you want to use them as hanging decorations.
By changing the yarn thickness and hook size you can get leaves of different sizes.
