Autumn 2025: Cow Print and crochet? The coolest fashion trend (and you can make it yourself with crochet!)
Animal print is the most loved right now but… it has changed its spots.
Ok girls, let’s be clear: animal print has never really gone on vacation; we’ve seen it on the runways, in the streets, in the closets of those who aren’t afraid to dare. But if leopard and zebra have now become almost “classics”, the true queen of the season is this: cow print, the “muccata” print, the one that turns your outfit into a fashion plot twist worthy of a 10/10 Instagram feed.
Yes, we’re talking about those white and brown (or black) patches that recall Texan fields but have now conquered it-girls all over the world. The best part? You don’t have to stick to runway pieces: you can bring them into your handmade creativity.
Cow Print + handmade: here’s why it’s a winning combo.
There’s something surprisingly modern about this print: it blends country vibes with an urban spirit. And when you bring it into the world of creative crochet, the result is made to show off.
I, for one, thought: “What if I tried to reinterpret it with a crochet bag?”
Said and done. And today I’m telling you everything, step by step.
How I made my cow print crochet bag
Inspiration
I did a little creative experiment. I downloaded an animal print font from the web, printed it on an A4 sheet, and from there came the idea to work my handmade cow print–effect bag.
To make it I chose two yarns with a bold character, perfect for this idea: TERNES brown and FREDDY LANATO cream, both available in the shop www.tessiland.com
Here are my allies:
- TERNES brown (a sturdy, assertive yarn)
- FREDDY LANATO cream (perfect to create contrast)
- ternes freddy
Work steps

I started with 31 chains using the cream cord.
I turned the work and went back with one single crochet in each chain.
Then I continued by alternating cream single crochets and brown single crochets, hiding the opposite color inside the stitches.
To guide me through the color changes I used the printed grid chart, but I also created my own “custom” color legend based on the bag’s size.
Tapestry crochet: the technique that saves you (but watch your yarn)
The technique I planned to use was tapestry crochet, which lets you create motifs and geometric designs by working with multiple strands at once. Each little square of the chart corresponds to a single crochet, and the strands are carried inside the stitches, giving multicolored designs.
Small disclaimer: with the thickness of my cords, I didn’t love the effect because it looked too “bulky.” If you want to try this technique, I recommend thinner yarns—whether cords or skeins—for a more elegant, defined result.
To learn it best, I recommend a super clear video on the channel L’angolo di Criss, which explains step by step how to manage color changes without going crazy.
Assembly and finishing details
I kept working until I reached the desired height.
I repeated the panel for the back (you can also reverse the colors if you want a different effect).
For the handle I started 90 chains with the brown cord and worked single crochet for 5 rows.
Finally, I assembled everything by sewing wrong sides together with a darning needle and added a magnetic snap as a closure.
The result? A bag that instantly gives back-to-school vibes—like a new diary and a glitter pen from the first days of September—yet perfect for returning to the city after the holidays.
