Frequently asked questions about looms and creative tools
How does the knitting mill work?
The knitting mill (or French knitting doll) has a series of metal pegs arranged in a circle on a cylinder. You hook the stitches onto the pegs, wrap the yarn around each peg and use the hook to lift the lower stitch over the upper one: the stitch advances and the tube grows downward. The Prym Midi's crank handle automates this process, making it much faster.
How do you use the Prym pompom maker?
Open the two-half-moon device, wrap yarn around each half until evenly filled, close it, insert scissors into the central guide and cut all the yarn around the perimeter. Thread a length of yarn into the central groove, tie a very tight double knot and open the device: your pompom is ready. Trim any uneven strands to finish.
What is the difference between the Midi and Comfort Twist knitting mills?
Both the Prym Midi Knitting Mill and the Comfort Twist produce the same tubular knitting. The difference is in the handle: the Comfort Twist has an ergonomic grip that reduces hand strain during long sessions. For occasional use, the Midi is perfectly sufficient; for regular use, the Comfort Twist is more comfortable.
What can you make with the star-shaped loom?
With the star-shaped weaving loom you can create flowers and stars in wool or cotton yarn — decorative modules you join together to make blankets, cushion covers, pot holders and accessories. It's a simple weaving technique that requires no needles or hooks. A wonderful activity for anyone discovering crafts for the first time.
