Canvas Mesh for Crochet Bags and Bargello
Quick overview: Canvas mesh for bags in silicone: rectangular sheets (50×33 cm, 60×42 cm), pre-shaped for clutches (24×26, 35×33, 45×41, 53×50 cm) and round (7.5 to 28 cm). More bend-resistant than plastic, with small, regular holes. For crochet bag reinforcement and Bargello technique. From €2.50.
Canvas mesh for bags is the choice for those wanting a tough, versatile internal reinforcement: made from silicone, it won't crack at the corners like plastic mesh and keeps its flexibility even after repeated bending. The small, regular holes make it ideal both for stiffening crochet bags and as a base for Bargello technique.

Canvas Mesh or Plastic Mesh: Which to Choose?
Both stiffen the bag, but they have different properties:
- Canvas mesh (silicone) → small, regular holes, resists bending without cracking, available in pre-shaped and round forms. Ideal for clutches, Bargello technique and bags that get folded often.
- Plastic mesh → larger holes (5-10 mm), more affordable, only in rectangular sheets to cut. Ideal for internal reinforcement of large bags where flexibility isn't critical.
Both are available on the mesh and stiffeners for bags page, along with eco-leather stiffeners and rigid shells.

Frequently asked questions
Where to buy canvas mesh for bags?
On Tessiland you'll find canvas mesh for bags in three formats: rectangular sheets (50×33 cm and 60×42 cm), pre-shaped for clutches (4 sizes from 24×26 to 53×50 cm) and round (6 diameters from 7.5 to 28 cm). All in silicone, white and black. Fast shipping across Europe and the UK. From €2.30.
What is pre-shaped canvas mesh for?
Pre-shaped canvas mesh already has the clutch or bag shape: insert it inside and crochet the covering directly over the holes. The result is a clutch that holds its shape with no extra rigid lining. Available in 4 sizes for clutches and 6 round diameters for circular bags.
Can canvas mesh be used for Bargello technique?
Yes, canvas mesh is the ideal base for Bargello technique: the small, regular holes guide the yarn and create the characteristic geometric pattern. For Bargello, use the rectangular sheets (50×33 cm or 60×42 cm) or the pre-shaped clutch versions. Pair with a bag yarn in coordinating colours for the typical Bargello gradient effect.
