Amanda Sfumato 5 is the multicolour version of Tessiland’s best-selling Cotton Lisle. The technical features remain identical to the solid Amanda 5: the same long-staple cotton, the same compact twist, the same deep mercerisation. What changes is the controlled ombré dye, developed to create smooth, harmonious colour transitions—without harsh breaks or irregular changes in hand feel.
Amanda’s shaded colourways are designed exclusively for Tessiland, following careful seasonal research into colour palettes. The dyeing is calibrated to keep stitches clean and consistent: the colour transitions flow through the work without “muddying” the pattern, enhancing both simple stitches and intricate lace.
It’s a yarn that delivers a strong decorative impact even with straightforward projects, reducing the need for manual colour changes and joins.
Structurally, Amanda Sfumato 5 is identical to the solid version. Differences are solely related to dyeing and how the yarn reads visually as you work.
100% long-staple cotton, mercerised and multi-ply twisted. Practical effect: the same strength, the same glide, the same dimensional stability as solid Amanda 5.
Colour shifts happen gradually. Practical effect: no abrupt breaks, and a harmonious look on runners, large doilies, shawls and summer wear.
The shaded effect emphasises texture and stitch changes. Technical note: on very dense or geometric stitches, the colour shift appears slower and “wider”; on lace stitches it looks more obvious and decorative.
Because it’s an artistic dye process, small variations between dye lots are normal. Tip: buy the quantity you need in one order for larger projects.
The shaded is not symmetrical: two identical balls won’t guarantee the same starting colour point. For mirrored pieces (sleeves, panels), you’ll need to manage where you begin the yarn.
For the first washes, a gentle hand wash is best, and it also helps the stitches “settle”. Afterwards, you can machine wash at max 30°C. Dry flat, away from heat sources and direct light. Avoid aggressive fabric softeners: they can dull the mercerisation and weigh down the ombré effect.

Yes—especially for larger pieces where the ombré can fully develop and enhance the design.
Yes. Camisoles, cover-ups, skirts and granny squares stay cool and decorative even with simple stitches.
Yes, if you want a special glossy colour effect. The structure stays compact and not fuzzy.
No manual changes are needed. The ombré is built into the yarn—just pay attention when starting your project.
If washed correctly, no—but for the first washes it’s best to separate strong colours, as with any dyed yarn.
Usually 1.75–2.0 mm: large enough to let the stitch breathe and allow the colour to “flow”.
Yes. For symmetrical pieces, unwind a little yarn until you reach a similar shade before you start.
Yes, just like solid Amanda 5. Dimensional stability is one of its key features.
